This topic is so hard because as you probably already know, I have many favourite books! It was really hard to narrow it down to just 10 and I know that I’ll probably kick myself for not including a certain book but I got it down to 10 somehow.
It’s Valentine’s Day! The day of love is upon us so I thought I’d do a little something to celebrate it. I’ve asked a number of bloggers and authors what their favourite romances in YA books are so today I’m here to share them all with you. I love reading everyone’s entries and I got a lot of new book recommendations as well. Continue reading “Favourite Romances in YA Books”→
It’s no secret that my love for romance has grown rapidly over the last year and now I just keep fangirling and squealing over the relationships in books. So I thought I’d do a post all about my top 10 fictional couples. This was a hard list to compile considering the fact that I ship so many characters, it’s just ridiculous. So if one of your favourite couples isn’t on here, I’m sorry. I should also just mention this will only include book couples and not couples from TV shows and movies because then that would just be too hard. But if you’re interested, here’s my top 10 fictional TV couples and I might do one based on movies but I’m not sure. Beware there may be spoilers for who ends up with who within these books but most of these are pretty obvious but spoilers for some, especially Shatter Me, The Selection, The Infernal Devices and other books with love triangles in them but I think in the other love triangles it was clear who would end up with who. When I first made this list it had 20 couples in it so first I have 10 honourable mentions but all I’m going to do is mention them and not go into why I ship them. By the way, there will be a lot of fangirling in this. Just saying.
Honourable Mentions(In no particular order):
Aleyx and Cara – Alienated
Erik and Talia – Talented
Adam and Mia – If I Stay
Noah and Mara – The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer
Dexter and Emma – One Day
Landon and Jamie – A Walk to Remember
Hazel and Augustus – The Fault in Our Stars
Peeta and Katniss – The Hunger Games
Ron and Hermione – Harry Potter
Anna and St Clair – Anna and the French Kiss:
Some of you may be shocked at the ones who are just honourable mentions and didn’t actually make the actual list and so am I! I was working it out and I was like woah, Peeta and Katniss didn’t make my top 10?! And Hazel and Augustus?! I can’t believe it myself. Don’t hate me too much for it.
Top Ten(This was so hard to order! I literally sat in front of the computer for almost half an hour debating where to put each couple):
10.Warner and Juliette – Shatter Me:
This was an unexpected couple that nobody saw coming. Honestly, during Shatter Me, did anyone predict this at all? Honestly, after reading Destroy Me, I was silently hoping this would happen but I didn’t think it would because of you know Adam Kent(the asshole he is). But then Chapter 62 happened, and everybody shipped Warnette. And don’t even get me talking about certain scenes in Ignite Me because we all know those were fabulous. If you’re reading this and you haven’t read past Shatter Me(you know who you are), I’m sorry for the spoilers but I did warn you in the introduction(I even put it in bold for you). Not my fault. But in all seriousness, Warnette is complete and utter perfection.
9. Maxon and America – The Selection:
I ship these two a lot which is odd because a lot of people get frustrated with them throughout the series. Ever since their first meeting, I knew that Aspen was just nobody anymore because Prince Maxon exists so of course she needs to be with him. I love Maxon so very much and his relationship with America is half of the reason why. He is so sweet and loving and just all types of romantic so of course I ship them so very much.
8.Eleanor and Park – Eleanor and Park:
I’m going to make this quick because if I keep thinking about this book, I will become so immensely sad and I don’t want that. Eleanor and Park are perfection. How can one not ship them? They make my little shipper heart so happy. Especially when Park had that whole passage about holding Eleanor’s hand. Their love is so sweet and innocent. I just can’t deal with their cuteness. Where’s my Park Sheridan? I could honestly write pages and pages about why Eleanor and Park have an absolutely stunning relationship and how they represent what young love should be like but I’m not going to bore you with that now. Maybe another time.
7.Simon and Isabelle – The Mortal Instruments:
Oh Sizzy. Ever since they first met, I was just like ‘I ship this and this needs to happen’. But things kept going wrong and my little shipper heart kept breaking into pieces(I’m going to say shipper hear a lot in this post, deal with it). But then City of Heavenly Fire happened and my heart just exploded with Sizzy feels. Sizzy are just so fabulous together and I need more of them. So Cassandra Clare, there better be one whole short story just on Simon and Isabelle as part of the Simon short story collection because I need more sizzy in my life.
6.Levi and Cath – Fangirl:
I couldn’t make a list and not include my favourite book right? Levi and Cath are the relationship that I want. He understands her and while he isn’t like her, he lets her be who she is and doesn’t interfere and try to change that about her but he still makes an all round better and happier person and I love that. They are just honestly so perfect and I don’t know what else to say about them. If you want to see how fabulous they are, read the book. Or if you’ve already read it, think about the reading out loud scene and the emergency dance party scene and tell me their relationship isn’t perfect.
5.Lola and Cricket – Lola and the Boy Next Door:
Lola and the Boy Next Door is the single book that I have re-read the most and that is simply for one reason; Cricket Bell. Any scene with Cricket in is complete and utter perfection. How can one not love Cricket Bell? He is so sweet and romantic. I mean the last few chapters with the dance show off perfectly how romantic he is. He came to her for the dance! He helped her get ready. He told her that story that made me want to melt inside. And he gave her the moon and the stars! Don’t even tell me that they aren’t perfect because then I may have to just shoot you.
4.Will and Tessa – The Infernal Devices:
Some people find it weird that even though I prefer Jem as a character, I ship Wessa over Jessa. Jem says some absolutely perfect lines to Tessa and his romantic side is utter perfection but I honestly believe that Will and Tessa are better suited to each other. They both read and honestly any scene they are both in is complete perfection. I ship them so much but I don’t even know why. I have no reasons for shipping them but I do.
3.Sydney and Adrian – Bloodlines:
IT’S SYDRIAN TIME!! I love Sydrian so much and I don’t understand how some people don’t ship them. Seriously, they are so perfect together. Seeing them in the Fiery Heart just made my little shipper heart but then the ending just broke it again. However, Silver Shadows Sydrian was utter perfection. They really showed how strong they are and how much they love each other because they kept trying to reach the other. And then when they finally found each other again, I couldn’t deal with their amazingness because honestly when Sydrian get together they are so badass and it’s just ridiculous how fabulous they are. I can’t deal with all this Sydrian because I ship them so much.
2.Percy and Annabeth – Percy Jackson:
I think Percabeth are such a typical couple that everyone ships them. You spend all of Percy Jackson and the Olympians waiting for them to get together and then when they finally do, you don’t get to see much of them together until you realise that there’s another series. Mark of Athena was fabulous for Percabeth but House of Hades was so perfect for Percabeth because we got to see so much of them together. We got to see how much they need each other but how they can still do things on their own. House of Hades Percabeth were just complete and utter perfection.
1.Finnick and Annie – The Hunger Games:
So my number one couple goes to Finnick and Annie. Honestly, if you’ve read Mockingjay, you probably fell in love with their relationship which of course led to your heart being ripped out repeatedly. Finnick and Annie were always my favourite couple ever since I first read the books. Catching Fire Finnick was so ridiculously in love with Annie and then when we finally met Annie and got to see them interact together, we all fell in love with Finnick and Annie’s relationship. How could we not? I can’t talk much about them without getting sad and depressed so I won’t say anymore.
Why did I insert these gifs? The pain is real.
So that’s it for my top 10 fictional couples with my 10 honourable mentions. This was interesting to make, despite me being either really emotional or really fangirly. I apologise.
So today I thought I’d post my July book haul since it is the end of the month! It’s a very small one compared to others because I only got 12 books. This month I bought 5 books on my own, received 4 for review and my mother bought me 3 as well. Let’s just get started.
The first book I got at the start of this month is Landline by Rainbow Rowell. I, of course, pre-ordered this book from Amazon expecting it to arrive days after the release but it arrived on the day which I was incredibly happy about! I have of course read this book and have reviewed it, so click here if you are interested in reading it. If we carry on that trend, the next two books I got were also by Rainbow Rowell and they were the special UK editions of Fangirl and Eleanor and Park. My mother bought me these and I was so happy when I got them. The UK special edition of Fangirl is probably the most beautiful book I have ever seen before in my life. I love it so much. I now own two copies of both of these books but I don’t mind because I love them both so dearly.
I only got two books via Bookbridgr this month. I’ve requested 5 this month yet only this two has arrived. Hopefully, the others should be arriving soon. The one I got was The Book Of Life by Deborah Harkness, which is the final book in the All Souls trilogy. As soon as I requested this one I regretted it because I haven’t read the first two in the trilogy and while they seemed interesting at first, they have become less interesting over time. However, I have got the other two on my kindle so I shall hopefully be reading this trilogy at one point! I did however feel really bad after requesting it and I wish there was some way that I could have cancelled my request. The other book I got was Conquest by Jennifer Ridyard and John Connolly. I had never heard of this book before seeing it but after reading the synopsis I got hooked. I shall definitely be reading this soon. This book doesn’t come out until late August so hopefully I shall read it before it’s release.
I got three books from the Works from when I went shopping earlier this week. If you are unaware about what the Works is, it is this UK based store that sells a whole range of things at ridiculously low prices. The books are always 3 for £5 or £1.99 each which is ridiculously cheap. Usually they don’t have a good range, but they get new stock every few weeks and they sometimes have some good books. However, if you see a book in the Works, it is recommended you buy it there and then because once they sell out of that particular book, they don’t restock it. I learnt that the hard way with the Delirium trilogy! However this month I got The 100 by Kass Morgan. The TV series recently started in the UK and there has been a lot of buzz about it recently. I really want to watch the TV series but I feel like reading the book first especially since it is a stand alone and it probably won’t take me that long to read. I also got A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens. I have been wanting to read more classics and the Works have a whole classics section with matching covers so I thought I’d buy one of those. I chose this one particularly because this book is talked about quite often in YA novels and I never know what they are talking about so I wanted to read it. The final book I got that day was a bind up of The Hound of the Baskervilles and the Valley of Fear both by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. I got this because next year for my English GCSE, we have to read The Hound of the Baskervilles but I thought I’d get a headstart and start reading it this summer.
Yesterday while at Waterstones, I decided to buy two books that I’ve wanted for a while. I finally bought a physical copy of Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins. This is one of my favourite books so of course I’ve been dying to get a physical copy. I was also planning on buying a physical copy of Anna and the French Kiss but they didn’t have any. Hopefully when I buy Isla, I shall also buy a copy of Anna as well so that I can own the whole series. I then bought the Clockwork Princess Manga. I own the other two in Manga form and I have read them and loved them so I can’t wait to dive into this one. However I am not looking forward to reading certain scenes and actually seeing them as well.
So that’s all the physical books I got this month. As always, I got many books on my kindle but again that list would be too long to share with you and it would make me feel guilty for getting so many! See you soon with another post.
Hey! I haven’t posted a book related thing in a while(well it seems that way to me) so I thought I’d do the Top 10 Influential Books Tag. This is a tag that has been going around the booktube for a while and it looked interesting. In the original version, you aren’t meant to explain why these books are influential to you but I thought I’d give you a brief explanation. These are in no particular order.
This book was the one that really sparked my interest in books. This is a short book and every chapter is a poem and honestly if I read it now, it would take me about half an hour but I loved it so much. It made me see friendships in a different light and it affected me so much because without it, I probably wouldn’t have seen how important friendship is.
I think most readers my age would include this on their list because it was the series of our generation. Honestly without this series, I wouldn’t have been friends with any of my main friends now and I wouldn’t have started reading again properly. I have a lot to thank to J.K. Rowling and this series but I won’t bore you with those now.
Even thought Harry Potter got me back into reading, The Hunger Games got me into YA books and without YA, I don’t know what my life would be like. This series was the first series I read quickly. I read the whole first book in one night and I will always remember how much I loved this series the first time.
Even though the Hunger Games got me into reading YA, it lead me onto Divergent which was another series I devoured quickly. This series has so many morals in it and this is the series that got me into obsessively reading and I will always be eternally grateful.
This series is the series that got me into watching Booktube videos and which then lead me on to creating this blog. I must admit, it’s not the best series out there but I love it and it’s again another series I devoured quickly.
This is my favourite series of all time. I could again make a whole other post about this series and I might in the future. The amount of morals in this series is crazy. This is the first series that I extremely fangirled over and it lead me to where I am now. I can’t thank this series enough for what it has done to me.
Everyone who has read this book will know how influential this book is. This taught me so much about love and friendship and just life in general. In fact my friend wrote a blog post about The Fault In Our Stars and about why she loved it and I agree with everything she said, so click here to read it.
Honestly I talk about this book so much. If you want to know more about why I love this book, click here to go see my review of it. Mainly this book taught me that it is okay to be who I am because there will always be people there who will love me no matter what.
As well as TFIOS, this book also taught me about love and also about how hard life can get. Even though life can get hard, there will always be someone there to help you and they can make all the difference in the world.
This is another book that taught me about how hard life can get and that having people there can make a huge difference. Honestly, this book changed my opinion about so much. I can’t even explain how much I love this book.
The explanations are very brief because it’s hard to explain why a book changes you. I love reading and I think these books are the reason why I am who I am today. I tag Priya to do this tag.
People always see me reading books around school and a lot of people don’t know me that well, so to start a conversation they usually ask me what my favourite book is. In the past, I have never been able to answer it properly because I’ve never had a definite favourite, I love so many books and it’s hard to just choose one. Also this person would also judge me based on the book I say, so I always chose carefully. But ever since last September, the answer to this question was clear. Fangirl is my favourite book. Then of course, a lot of people who I talk to have never heard of the book so they ask why I like it so much. I still do not know how to answer this question, because there are many reasons as to why I love this book. I recently discovered that my goodreads review isn’t exactly great because I didn’t know what to write. So this is my first proper review as to why I love this book. I’ll try to make it as non-spoilery as possible but just to make sure only read on if you have read the book.
