Maybe I’m going through a mid quarantine crisis but I looked at the entirety of my TBR yesterday and I didn’t want to read any of them and I kinda want to unhaul them all. Only 3 stood out that I wanted to read but they are all on my April TBR so they don’t count. So I am here today to share the entirety of my physical TBR with you and why I don’t really want to read them so if you can convince me to keep any of these, that would be great.
Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo
I love the Grishaverse but I’ve heard such mixed things about this that I’m scared? Everything that has been said about this book makes me think I’m going to hate it.
Empress of All Seasons by Emiko Jean
I had never heard of this before receiving it in an Illumicrate box and I was tempted to unhaul it because it’s fantasy which I don’t read much of these days, however it’s a standalone fantasy which intrigues me.
Gideon The Ninth by Tamsyn Muir
I also received this in an Illumicrate box which I was excited for. I heard a lot of hype about this book however, since then I’ve heard some shitty stuff about the book and the author. Also, it’s a sci-fi book which I don’t usually enjoy so I’m not sure if I would like it.
Kingdom of Souls by Rena Barron
This is yet another Illumicrate box. I’m not gonna lie – the only reason I got this Illumicrate box was because of the Carry On item inside of it, so therefore I wasn’t that interested in the book. I haven’t heard much about it and I’m so picky with fantasy.
Dance of Thieves by Mary E Pearson
This is one that I am leaning more towards keeping. Whilst it is a fantasy book, I loved The Remnant Chronicles so I think I would like this one.
Run, Riot by Nikesh Shukla
This is another book that I am leaning more towards keeping because it’s a short contemporary book that I will most likely enjoy, but it just never sticks out to me as a book I want to read.
Only Ever Yours and Asking for It by Louise O’Neill
These books have survived many unhauls. I keep looking at them thinking ooh I do want to read these but everyone says they are difficult reads which is what has scared me off. I’ve owned them since 2014, so if I haven’t read them by now, will I ever?
Children of Virtue and Vengeance by Tomi Adeyemi
This is the most recent addition to this pile as I randomly picked it up and came back and immediately thought why? I enjoyed the first book but it’s been so long and I’ve slightly lost interest in it.
Orphan Monster Spy by Matt Killeen
This is a World War 2 novel which I never read. It’s also a spy novel which I never read. But maybe that means I’ll like it?
A Sky Painted Gold by Laura Wood
This is another book I am interested in but it’s historical fiction so I never reach for it.
If It Makes You Happy by Claire Kann
I haven’t heard great things about this one but it’s a contemporary romance book which are exactly the sort of books I love.
The Prom by Saundra Mitchell
Now this is one I definitely want to keep as I’m always intrigued to read novelisations of musicals. However, I have yet to see this show but the Netflix film is releasing at some point this year so I’ll read it after I watch it.
Wonder by R.J. Palacio
This is a book I know I should read but it’s been so long and I never reach for it?
The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
I think my friend would kill me for getting rid of this book but I just never reach for it because it’s historical fiction and it’s sad. I will probably keep it though.
The Kane Chronicles trilogy, The Ship of the Dead and the Singer of Apollo by Rick Riordan
Now I love Rick Riordan’s books but I haven’t read one since 2015. I think it’s now too late for me to catch up with them all and maybe it’s time to give up?
The Young Elites trilogy by Marie Lu
I really love Marie Lu’s books but this trilogy has such terrible reviews, even from other Marie Lu fans which is putting me off.
Chaos Walking trilogy by Patrick Ness
Listen, I’ve tried to read this so many times and I just can’t do it. It’s not interesting to me at all and I think it’s time for it to finally go.
The City of Brass by S.A. Chakraborty
This is a recent addition to the TBR which I sort of want to read but also FANTASY.
The Extinction Trials trilogy by S.M. Wilson
I honestly don’t know why I picked this series up to read. I don’t particularly care for dinosaurs but I’ve also never read a book with dinosaurs in them before so I’m not sure.
Not If I See You First by Eric Lindstorm
My brother bought this for me for my 16th birthday (5 years ago!) and I had never heard of it before. It intrigues me because it’s a contemporary with a blind protagonist which I’ve never read but have I ever reached for it before? No.
After the Fire by Will Hill
Another recent addition though this one is about cults which I am not sure how I feel about it.
The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern
Okay I’ve never read the Night Circus but the hype for this made me cave. However, I’ve heard that her books are quite lyrical which scares me because I usually hate lyrical books.
Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake
This is another book I have owned for YEARSSS but never reached for. I’m not even sure why but the hype for the series kinda died completely so I have no desire to read it?
Twenties Girl by Sophie Kinsella
There was a time where I loved reading all of Sophie Kinsella’s books but I don’t think I’m in that mood anymore. I like some of her books now but I’m a lot pickier.
Strange The Dreamer and Muse of Nightmares by Laini Taylor
I know this is a very loved duology but again LYRICAL FANTASY (two of my most dreaded words these days).
The Iron Trial by Holly Black and Cassandra Clare
I’m unhauling a Cassandra Clare book… this sounds weird. But I’ve owned this book since it first released and I have attempted to read it numerous times and I just can’t get through it.
The Humans by Matt Haig
I thought I would love this book but I started reading it and I wasn’t a fan.
The Surface Breaks by Louise O’Neill
Yes I have 3 Louise O’Neill books on my TBR. I’ve heard really bad things about this book and that is ultimately what scared me off (even though the cover is stunning)
Chasing The Stars by Malorie Blackman
I love you Malorie Blackman but me and sci-fi just don’t go well together, I’m sorry.
So those are all of the books on my physical TBR. Which of these should I keep? Please help me.
