Try A Chapter | Fantasy Edition

So, one day I was just looking at my physical TBR the other day and it started overwhelming me with just how many books I have that I have not read yet. There are actually quite a few books on my TBR that I’m not sure if  I actually want to read. So I decided to do the Try A Chapter tag with some of them. I actually had quite a few so I’ve split them into three categories: review copies, fantasy and contemporary. This is the second post in the series where I will be picking up some of the fantasy books on my TBR that I am unsure about.

Everless by Sara Holland

This is a recent purchase but I don’t think I’m going to keep it. I’ve put into my maybe unhaul pile simply because after reading the first chapter, I found myself confused and not bothered enough to actually be interested in what happens next. I am very picky with which new fantasy series I start and I don’t see myself getting invested into this series.

A Shiver of Snow and Sky by Lisa Luedecke

I picked this book up at a Scholastic blogger event a few months ago and after reading that first chapter, I definitely think I made the right choice. The first chapter intrigued me and I want to learn more about what happens to this village and more about the world. I’m definitely keeping this book.

The Surface Breaks by Louise O’Neill

We got this book for free at the same Scholastic blogger event and honestly, it was never a book I intended to read. I have 2 of her other books on my TBR and I want to get around to those, but I didn’t really want to read this book, especially after hearing some not so great things about it. I am also not a huge fan of reading about mermaids but the first chapter of this book was okay. I think I’ll keep a hold of it for now but it’s not a huge priority to read.

Empress of All Seasons by Emiko Jean

This was a book that I received in an Illumicrate box last year and I had never heard of it before I got it. The first chapter was intriguing and I am interested to see where it goes next. After doing some online research, I discovered that this is in fact a standalone fantasy novel which is why I am 100% keeping it. I hardly ever read standalone fantasy novels so I’m excited for this one. It actually just jumped up my TBR pile.

A Thousand Pieces of You by Claudia Gray

I have had this book for years as well as the sequel and I’m not ashamed to admit that I only kept it for the cover. I have even tried to read this book in the past and failed. After reading the first chapter, I think it might finally be time to get rid of this series. I am just not a huge fan of books that involve alternate dimensions and traveling between worlds because I find them confusing and just not very interesting. This was a series I held onto for 5 years purely for the covers but it’s time to move on.

So those are all of the fantasy books that I tried out. Any that you agree with my decision on? Any that you think I should definitely read soon? Let me know down below.
