Top Ten Hidden Gems

I read a lot of books. Most of the books I read are incredibly hyped up either in the UKYA community or in the YA community in general. However, we all have that odd book that we read and become obsessed with that no one else has read. This week’s topic is all about those books.

Boys Don’t Cry by Malorie Blackman

This was one of the first YA books I ever read and it’s also one of the oldest books on my bookshelf. I think this book is so underrated and I wish that more people would read this. I really want to re-read it soon since I haven’t read it in about 6 years.

Struck by Lightning by Chris Colfer

As a major Glee fan, when Chris Colfer released a book, I had to read it and I’m so happy I did because I loved this book so much. It also has a great film adaptation starring Chris so you should definitely read it and watch it.

The Land of Stories by Chris Colfer

Following on with the Chris Colfer trend, Land of Stories is an amazing middle grade series that he wrote. I wish more people would read it because I can see so many kids loving it. Apparently, they are also adapting it into a film which is going to be directed by Chris himself which is so cool.

Pivot Point by Kasie West

Everyone loves Kasie West’s other books (including me) and she’s commonly referred to as the Queen of YA contemporary but people always seem to forget her debut book which was the first book in an amazing dystopian duology. This was honestly one of the best dystopians that I have ever read.

Starflight by Melissa Landers

I’m not a huge sci-fi fan but this book was so great. It was full of angst and yet still had a great plot. I still need to read the companion novel but I loved the first one.

Night School by CJ Daugherty

This was a series that I binge-read a few years back and really enjoyed. It’s an older classic UKYA series that doesn’t get the love it deserves.

Unconventional by Maggie Harcourt

If you love Fangirl like me, you will love this book. If you’ve ever been to a convention, you will love this book. If you like YA romance, you will love this book.

Bookishly Ever After by Isabel Bandeira

This is another underrated YA romance with a character who is extremely bookish. Also the love interest is Indian and he loves Bollywood movies!

The Kiss of Deception by Mary E Pearson

The first book in this series had a lot of hype but it died down quite a lot which makes me sad because this really is a kickass YA fantasy series.

My So Called Bollywood Life by Nisha Sharma

I was hyped for this book as soon as I heard about it years ago and I read it on release day. I think more people should read this, especially if like me you love Bollywood.

So those are some of my hidden gems. Any that you’ve read? Let me know down below.
