Interview with Ali Zafar

Ali Zafar is back on the big screen again with his first Pakistani film, Teefa in Trouble which releases tomorrow worldwide. Teefa in Trouble is also Zafar’s first foray into film production as he has partnered up with Yash Raj Films to distribute the film worldwide. The film follows Teefa who goes to Poland to bring Anya (Maya Ali) to Pakistan to marry gangster Butt’s son but gets into trouble with Anya’s gangster father and the police. I got the opportunity to sit down with Ali Zafar for a quick discussion about the film.

What made you decide to produce this film?

I just wanted to make a film out of Pakistan that is at an international standard with a new kind of film-making and a new kind of cinema with humour, jokes, songs, dance and action that’s being experienced for the first time.

Is film production something you plan to keep on doing?

Well, let’s see. Yes of course, with my production house Lightingale Productions. That’s why we’ve started. The idea is to make good cinema, create good movies.

How different is it working in a Pakistani film compared to working in an Indian film?

There’s not much of a difference but the Indian industry’s infrastructure has been developed for so many years. We’ve started with the development of the Pakistani film industry but we are getting there very rapidly.

What do you hope people will take from Teefa in Trouble?

A lot of fun, entertainment, some good memories, good music, laughs and laughter.

Do you think entertaining films are critically underrated?

Well, it all depends. Some entertaining films are critically entertained also. Like I believe, I haven’t seen it yet, but I’m hearing great reviews about Sanju. So it really depends. A film can be critically acclaimed plus do good business.

What do you think needs to be done to make Pakistani cinema more well known?

I think, we just need to keep making good movies.

Catch Teefa in Trouble in cinemas all across the UK, I’m definitely planning on watching it! I might even do a review for it next week sometime…isew9j0A
